GeomorphIS Team Supports Angeles NF Sand Fire Restoration Project

The US Forest Service (USFS) has issued GeomorphIS a task order under our Region 5 BPA to conduct specialists studies in support of the Angeles National Forest’s (ANF) Restoration Project. The GeomorphIS team will prepare Biological Evaluations and Biological Assessments (BEs/BAs) to address wildlife-fisheries and botanical resources within the project area. GeomorphIS specialists will also conduct air quality/smoke analysis and prepare fuels reduction treatment plan. Specialist reports prepared by the GeomorphIS team will support ANF’s NEPA analysis of the project.

GeomorphIS Team Conducts FHWA Cultural Survey in Wyoming

GeomorphIS and team members, Hope Archaeology, Inc. and US West Research, Inc., are conducting a cultural resources survey of the Wiggins Fork Bridge site in Fremont County, WY. The results of this survey will provide the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) with information needed to determine whether the bridge is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

 

 

Angeles NF Chooses GeomorphIS Team to Support CHSRA Review

The US Forest Service (USFS) has chosen GeomorphIS to provide a team of technical experts to support the Angeles National Forest’s (ANF) review of the California High Speed Rail Authority’s (CHSRA) plans to construct a rail line and tunnel through Forest lands. The GeomorphIS team includes senior hydrologists, geohydrologists, wildife and fisheries biologists, botanists, foresters, engineers, permitting specialists, GIS specialists, and other support staff. The GeomorphIS team will review CHSRA technical documents and advise ANF managers on likely environmental effects. Our project coordinator will coordinate the flow of information to the team and brief ANF managers on progress and results of the analyses.

 

GeomorphIS Team to Survey Mexican Spotted Owls in Utah

The BLM Utah Kanab District has tasked GeomorphIS/BIOME to conduct Mexican spotted owl (MSO; Strix occidentalis lucida) surveys and habitat suitability assessments on 15 sites in Kane and Washington Counties, Utah. As principal biologist for BIOME, Bryce Marshall will lead a team of experienced MSO surveyors per the conditions of his US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) issued Section 10(a) (1) (a) recovery permit. Determination of habitat suitability will follow the model of Willy and Zambon (2007), other sources, and the insights of local BLM and FWS personnel. Field surveys will take place in 2018.

GeomorphIS Prepares Fire Management Plan for USBR in MT

The US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), Montana Area Office (MTOA) has tasked the GeomorphIS/LarchFire team to prepare a Fire Management Plan (FMP) for USBR-administered lands at Canyon Ferry Reservoir, Montana that contain burnable vegetation. The FMP will address issues related to the Reservoir and directly downstream, to include Riverside Campground on the east side of the Missouri River and the lands providing access to the Helena
Valley Pumping Plant on the west side of the Missouri River. The plan will also address the wildland-urban interface adjacent to USBR property.

 

GeomorphIS to Conduct Clearance Surveys for BLM in Idaho

The BLM Idaho Falls District Office has tasked GeomorphIS and partner Watershed Consulting, LLC to conduct field examinations/surveys for sensitive plants in the Blackfoot River Special Recreation Management Area (SRMA) prior to implementation of the proposed SRMA travel management plan. Proposed actions include but are not limited to, expansion/development of campgrounds, development of trails, development/improvement of boat put in and take out locations, overlooks, interpretive areas, trailheads, and parking areas. GeomorphIS/WC team botanists will conduct intensive plant surveys in areas of known known sensitive plant occurrences, and location of proposed actions.
