Lassen National Forest Tasks GeomorphIS to Provide NAGPRA Support

The Lassen National Forest tasked the GeomorphIS/Algonquin Consultant team to provide identification of human remains from within archaeological collections, for the purposes of the Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The Lassen has identified a subset of its existing archaeological collection that are unidentified to species and require confirmation as to species. Analysis will include non-destructive cleaning, complete skeletal and dental inventory, demographic and morphometric profile, and pathology assessment. The GeomorphIS/Algonquin team is providing a osteologist experienced in identification of human and faunal remains to conduct this assessment.

USFS Tasks GeomorphIS to Prepare LEAPS Fire and Scenery Assessment Reports

The USDA Forest Service has tasked GeomorphIS to conduct fire-fuel and scenery assessments related to the Lake Elsinore Advanced Pumped Storage (LEAPS) Project, a proposed hydroelectric project within the Cleveland National Forest near the city of Lake Elsinore, California. The USFS Pacific Southwest Region is reviewing the LEAPS application to identify affected National Forest System (NFS) lands and resources. The current project proposal will likely result in numerous impacts to NFS lands and resources and potential inconsistencies with the Cleveland National Forest’s Land Management Plan (LMP). The CNF anticipates that one or more project-specific amendments may be necessary to ensure the project consistency with the LMP.
